Discover how GetThru's Supercollider system saved over 2 million messages from 10DLC rate limit failures, enhancing outreach efficiency and impact for political campaigns and organizations in 2023 and 2024.
During 2023 and 2024 we rebuilt our core text message sending system from the ground up. The new system, which we call the Supercollider, featured numerous improvements, including a smarter way to handle 10DLC rate limits. Specifically, we engineered the new system to hold on to messages that we knew would fail due to rate limits and then retry those messages the next day. We’re happy to share that it worked!
Over the course of October we successfully “saved” more than 2 million messages from failure by re-queuing them for next-day sending.
To understand what that means, we need a quick refresher on 10DLC rate limits, most importantly the T-Mobile daily brand limit. Most organizations have a limit on how many message segments it can send to T-Mobile customers (political campaigns, PACs, and political parties are “uncapped”). Those limits range from as few as 2,000 to as high as 200,000 and are based on a brand score provided by the Campaign Registry. If a brand sends more than their limit on a given day, those messages will fail.
Before we built the Supercollider, if a ThruText client went over their T-Mobile limit, their messages would simply fail. And if they wanted to try to try those messages again, they would have to export the messages, find the contacts with failures, re-upload them in a group, and then send them a new message. This intensive manual process was more than most clients could manage.
Now, with the Supercollider, we count each message that a client attempts to send to a T-mobile contact, and as soon as they reach their daily limit, we stop sending those messages and queue them up for the next day. This system becomes particularly valuable to our election-focused clients as they ramp up their texting. They don’t need to do any complicated assessment of how many T-mobile contacts are in their groups, or any next day exports and group uploads to retry failed messages. Instead, the Supercollider does the work for them, holding messages that we know will fail today and sending them the next day when the T-mobile daily brand limit has reset. The result – more than 2 million messages saved from 10DLC failures in October alone!
GetThru prides itself on helping our clients navigate 10DLC, and we’re especially proud of this innovation, which helps our clients maximize their impact when it matters most. We’re also proud that ThruText is (as far as we know) the only P2P texting system on the market that is smart enough to prevent 10DLC rate limit failures and then retry those messages the next day.
